Aperam Resistohm 80, composed of 80% Nickel and 20% Chromium (NiCr 80/20), is the best known and most widely preferred resistive alloy in the industry. The most important feature that makes this alloy stand out in its class is its extraordinary oxidation resistance, which is achieved through the addition of rare earth elements to its formula. It provides superior protection against oxidation, especially under demanding conditions characterized by frequent switching or wide temperature fluctuations.
Its excellent resistance to hot flow and very good dimensional stability at maximum operating temperatures reaching up to 1200°C prevents spiral elements from sagging or deforming during successive heating and cooling cycles. With these unique characteristics, it is the material of choice for industrial furnaces, high-temperature heating elements, and hot welding machines used for sealing plastic bags. (In an alternated oxidising/reducing atmosphere, it can be subject to "green rot" corrosion).
