Isquaredelement
Innovative approach to semiconductor heating solutions.
Founded in 1964 by Jack Davis and Stan Matys in New York, I Squared R Element Co., Inc. is a well-established manufacturer specializing in industrial thermal processing technologies and advanced thermodynamic engineering. Experiencing steady growth in its early decades, it became the largest manufacturer of silicon carbide (SiC) heating elements in the United States. In 1993, responding to the industry's demand for higher operating temperatures, the company expanded its production line to include molybdenum disilicide (MoSi₂) heating elements. Today, operating out of its 122,000-square-foot facility, it is the only manufacturer in the United States that produces both silicon carbide (Starbar®) and molybdenum disilicide (Moly-D®) heating elements entirely through domestic resources.
Interchangeability and Mixed-Use Flexibility
Starbar and Moly-D products are 100% interchangeable with equivalent products from other global manufacturers. Furthermore, due to the company's advanced material stability, furnace operators can run brand-new and aged elements simultaneously within the same control group (in series or parallel). This capability significantly reduces furnace downtime and operational maintenance costs (OPEX).
Supply Chain Reliability
All manufacturing processes are executed within the company's facilities in the U.S. By maintaining completely domestic production, the company provides distributors and end-users with a reliable, predictable supply chain that is insulated from overseas logistical disruptions and geopolitical risks.
Agile Production and Fast Lead Times
While offering same-day shipping for in-stock items, the company also provides lead times for custom orders that are well below industry averages. Custom Moly-D orders are typically manufactured within 1 to 2 days, and large-volume or specialized orders within 1 to 2 weeks, actively minimizing potential production delays.
Engineering Support and Quality Assurance
The company provides complimentary furnace design, heating element selection, and electrical calculation support. Direct access to expert engineers during business hours ensures the rapid resolution of technical issues. Every single element undergoes a 100% physical and electrical quality inspection before it is cleared for shipping.
The company serves high-precision industries where operational continuity and thermal stability are critical. Key focus areas include:
Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing: Wafer fabrication and crystal growth processes.
Advanced Industrial Glass and Ceramics: Float glass production lines and technical ceramic sintering.
Heavy Metallurgy and Heat Treatment: Continuous annealing, galvanizing, and melting furnaces.
Aerospace and Mining: Curing of advanced composite alloys and precious metal assaying.
I Squared R Element offers two flagship brands based on advanced materials science to meet the demanding high-temperature requirements of industrial furnaces:
-
Starbar® (Silicon Carbide - SiC) Heating Elements: Capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1,600ºC, the Starbar series features high resistance to oxidation and thermal shock. To accommodate various industrial furnace architectures, they are manufactured in multiple forms, including straight, spiral, dumbbell, and tube. They can be custom-configured up to 5,800 mm in length, specifically meeting the standards of furnaces where precise heat distribution is required.
-
Moly-D® (Molybdenum Disilicide - MoSi₂) Heating Elements: Designed for ultra-high-temperature applications up to 1,850ºC, exceeding the capacity of standard SiC elements. Its most defining feature is the ability to form a self-healing protective silicon dioxide (SiO₂) glaze layer at high temperatures, which actively prevents oxidation. To minimize energy loss, the cold ends are engineered to be twice the diameter of the hot zone. They provide rapid heating and a high surface power density.
