Resistohm Y
Resistohm Y is a special iron-chromium-aluminium resistance wire that does not become fragile even after long utilization at high temperatures, thanks to its Yttrium content. With a resistance up to 1300°C and 1.39 Ω.mm²/m resistivity, it exhibits stable performance in important thermal cycles.

Manufactured by Aperam, Resistohm Y is a resistance wire containing 22% chromium, 5% aluminium, and a specific Yttrium content, with the balance consisting of iron. It has a resistivity of 1.39 Ω.mm²/m and can be safely used in oxidized atmospheres up to 1300°C inside electric furnaces.
The most critical feature of this alloy in the industry is the Yttrium addition in its formula. Yttrium improves the adhesive power of the protective aluminium oxide layer formed on the surface, considerably decreasing the risk of attacks from other oxides or carbides. At the same time, it prevents too rapid grain growth, ensuring that the wire will not become fragile even after a long time of utilization. In this way, it provides a very good life-time and a very good behavior to creeping in applications with very high temperatures and important thermal cycles. If the future operating temperature is below 1000°C, it is recommended to operate a preoxidation of the spirals at a temperature of 1100°C during 2 hours before use.
